Roberto Firmino has reportedly offered himself to FC Barcelona, though the Catalan giants have already turned down the chance to sign the Liverpool attacker.
According to Marca, the Brazilian international has shopped himself to the La Liga leaders ahead of his departure from Anfield this summer, though Barcelona have opted against signing Firmino for free at the end of this season.
As per the report, Barcelona are fully aware of Firmino’s talent and would have been open to the Liverpool star joining the team in years gone by. However, with Roberto Firmino leading the line and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set to return, there’s no real need for the striker at the Camp Nou.
Firmino announced his intention to leave Liverpool at the end of this season after eight years at the club, with the Brazilian attacker winning the UEFA Champions League and Premier League as well as spearheading one of the best front-threes European football has seen in some time.
Indeed, the forward’s departure will leave a huge hole in Liverpool’s squad, yet the destination of Firmino’s next club remains a mystery with Barcelona rejecting the approach from the 31-year-old attacker.
Barcelona would have been a poor fit for Firmino this summer
Firmino and Barcelona, on paper, sound like a match made in heaven. Yet dig a little deeper, and the reality is fairly evident that the two would not have worked out at this stage in football.
Whilst the Brazilian is good enough to play for a club as big as Barcelona, Firmino needs to sign for a team where he could be the main man to lead the line and be supported by players who will get the best out of the 31-year-old, something Xavi Hernandez’s side will fail to do.
