Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah was dreaming of a move to Anfield years before he eventually arrived.
That’s according to his former Fiorentina teammate Micah Richards. Richards has spoken before of his experience of playing alongside Salah in Florence during the 2014/15 season. And now in his column for The Daily Mail, the pundit has shared what the Reds’ Egyptian King once told him over coffee.
“It was always Mo Salah’s dream to be a Liverpool legend,” he said. “I played with him at Fiorentina and when we used to go out for coffee, he talked about his ambition to move to Anfield eventually.

“I knew when Liverpool signed him in 2017 they had a superstar in the making, but even I’ve been stunned by the number of goals he has scored.
“He needs four more to leapfrog Steven Gerrard (186) and get into the club’s all-time top five. Don’t bet against him doing it by the end of the season.”
Mo the mentality monster
When you’re as single-minded and determined as Mohamed Salah, then you can truly achieve whatever you want.
Talent helps, of course, but there are more talented players out there than Liverpool’s No.11. He isn’t a perfect footballer. His touch is a little messy, he very occasionally snatches at chances and he can at times be completely marked out of a game.
But show us a player with a stronger will than Mo. You can’t, because there isn’t one. What the 30-year-old has achieved during his career has been remarkable.

After being pretty much rejected by Chelsea as a young player, Salah could have crumbled. Plenty have when faced with similar circumstances. But instead, Mo vowed to come back to the club he turned down in order to sign for the Blues, and show them exactly what they lost out on.
In the years since, Salah has done that and so much more. To have hauled his way into sixth on the all-time Liverpool top scorer’s list inside six seasons is incredible. And as Richards says, he isn’t stopping there.
This season won’t end in Mo adding any silverware to his collection – team and individual honours will surely evade him. But if the Reds can add one or two players with Salah’s same drive and commitment to succeed at Liverpool this summer, they and he will be back next season.
