Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shared an update on midfielder Naby Keita, who has been absent recently due to an injury.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash against West Ham United, the German was asked about the 28-year-old – who is out of contract at the end of the season.

“If everything goes well, he could be in partial training today,” said Klopp.

“Not in team training yet. He has his own programme. Much closer.”

The Guinea international has made just 13 appearances this term.

At this point, it will be a race to see whether Keita is fit enough to play again before the end of the season.

If he doesn’t make it back in time, we would have already seen the midfielder play his last match for Liverpool – against Crystal Palace back in February.

Ever since he arrived at Anfield in a deal worth £52.75m, the former RB Leipzig star has been plagued by injuries.

During his five years at the club, the Guinea international has made just 129 appearances for the Reds. More worryingly, only 77 of these came from the starting XI.

Whilst there have been some ‘incredible’ highs, his Liverpool career will largely be remembered for his absences.

Despite having huge amounts of talent, it hasn’t really worked out for him on Merseyside.
