The future of Napoli defender Kim Min-jae remains in the air, amid claims Liverpool are set to battle Manchester United to sign him.
That’s according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, speaking on the Here We Go Podcast.
With both clubs looking to sign a centre-back this summer, the reporter has now shared an update, consisting of disappointing news for Reds supporters.

“From what I understand, Napoli are pushing to extend the contract of Kim, but I’m also told that Premier League clubs are attempting it,” said Romano.
“Kim doesn’t want to be distracted with Napoli, but after this week we will be more clear.
“At the moment, I heard more Man United than Liverpool for Kim Min-Jae, but let’s see, it’s a big opportunity.”
United more likely than Liverpool for Kim
Various situations have led to the need for Liverpool to sign an additional centre-back this summer.
Very suddenly, Joel Matip’s form has dropped off massively. He now struggles to keep up athletically, pointing to a player who is sadly beyond his best.
Furthermore, Joe Gomez hasn’t been able to reliably maintain a strong level of form. One match he is absolutely fantastic, and the next he makes numerous mistakes leading to goals.

Although Ibrahima Konate is the future of the Reds’s defence, he has struggled with injuries this term.
As a result, Liverpool need to bring a player like Kim in, as they look to strengthen ahead of next season.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Napoli star has a £44m release clause coming into effect between July 1st and July 15th – so it gives the club time to convince him of the project at Anfield.
