Frank Lampard has admitted that Chelsea haven’t been able to match the physicality of Liverpool in recent weeks before the Blues’ loss 4-0 aggregate loss to Real Madrid.
Speaking to BT Sport, the interim manager spoke about Chelsea’s problems this season, with the west London side on course for one of their worst seasons in recent memory having crashed out of the UEFA Champions League and sitting closer to the relegation zone than a European spot in the Premier League.
Yet whilst in his latest rant, Lampard spoke about the lack of physical output his players put out in Chelsea’s first-leg against Madrid, with the former Everton manager claiming that teams like Liverpool and Manchester City would never have put in such a performance.

Indeed, with Liverpool starting to look like their old selves again after a 6-1 thrashing against Leeds United, Lampard had clearly been watching the Reds before taking on Madrid last night, with the Chelsea boss seemingly urked that his side can’t match the levels of physicality his rivals are now hitting.
Lampard said: “Our physical output in the game [was annoying]. I managed here and coached here at Chelsea before and I understand that where you are where you want to be, physically you have to be there. The teams like Man City, Liverpool for the last five or six years, or Arsenal now, they have that.”
Liverpool never would have put on Chelsea’s performance vs Madrid

Liverpool might have been dumped out of the Champions League in Europe by Madrid before the Spanish giants set their sights on Chelsea, yet a good case could be made that at least the Reds put up some sort of effort in their two-legged tie against Los Blancos.
The Reds themselves have endured one of their worst seasons to date, yet with Europe still on the cards for Jurgen Klopp’s side, Liverpool can live with the fact that they have turned up in some fixtures this season, unlike Chelsea, who seemingly threw in the towel long ago.
