Stan Collymore has suggested that Liverpool should make a move to sign Sadio Mane just one year after the 31-year-old winger left Anfield to join Bayern Munich.

Speaking to the Sunday People via the Liverpool Echo, the pundit tipped the Reds to launch an attempt to bring the forward back to Merseyside amid reports that Mane could be sold by Bayern this summer after being involved in a physical altercation with Leroy Sane.

The pair clashed after Bayern’s 3-0 UEFA Champions League loss to Manchester City with Mane being suspended from Thomas Tuchel’s squad over the weekend to face Hoffenheim. And rumours are now growing that the Senegal international could be sold already.

Indeed, a return to Liverpool would be quite sensational, yet Collymore is a fan of the theory, with the pundit saying: “I’d also have a nibble at Mane, too, after events in the Bayern Munich dressing room this past week, and see if Jurgen Klopp could go some way towards getting the show back on the road like that.

“Nunez is ready to take the role of Firmino and, with Mane and Salah either side of him plus Diaz, Gakpo and Jota as very, very good back-up, Liverpool would only be a right-back and central defender short of a brilliant side. Mane still has plenty to offer and if there’s a cut-price deal to be done after he thumped Sane, then I’d be making the call.”

Given how beloved Mane is at Anfield, there will of course be some calls from fans for the Reds to make a move for the winger. Yet with Luis Diaz signed last year to replace the forward and Cody Gakpo now in as cover, Liverpool will be making a big mistake in moving for the 31-year-old.

As we know, central midfield and defence is what Liverpool will be looking to bring in this summer, and given how stern Bayern are at the negotiating table, the Bavarian giants would want a big fee for Mane even after the chaos the forward has caused in recent weeks.
