Liverpool have reportedly dropped their interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, with the Reds yet to submit a new enquiry for the 23-year-old.

According to the Daily Mail, the England international was a target for the Reds in the January transfer window, with Liverpool believed to be one of ten suitors for the Chelsea talent at the start of the year. However, there have since been no attempts from Jurgen Klopp’s side to sign the midfielder.

As per the report, Gallagher could be on the move this summer having failed to establish himself as a regular for Chelsea this season, with the Blues also in need of raising funds via the transfer window if they’re to pass Premier League and UEFA financial restrictions.

Whilst Gallagher would have been an ideal midfield signing for Liverpool this summer, it now seemingly appears that the Reds are distancing themselves from the Chelsea youngster, with Jurgen Klopp likely more interested in other targets for his squad overhaul.

Indeed, Gallagher’s Chelsea teammate, Mason Mount, appears to be a more suitable option for Liverpool this summer, even with a reported £70m pricetag. And as a result, the Anfield side could soon regret dropping out of the race for the 23-year-old.

Whilst Gallagher has hardly set the world alight this season with Chelsea, there’s no denying that the midfielder is a talent who could offer a lot to a top Premier League club, with Liverpool perfectly suited to bring in the youngster and to develop him into a world-beater.

Versatile, talented and Premier League-proven, Gallagher could have ticked a lot of boxes for what Liverpool need in a midfield signing this summer, yet with the Reds seemingly dropping their interest, the Merseyside club’s plans for the transfer window have shifted once again.
