Liverpool are now interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus, according to 90min.
The 26-year-old will soon enter the final 12 months of his current contract, so the Reds could look to capitalise on the Bundesliga club’s vulnerability when it comes to his selling value.
Gladbach are determined to keep the German, but the player’s representatives are exploring his options ahead of the summer window.
Liverpool are firm admirers of Neuhaus, so he will be on their list for their midfield overhaul.
From the Premier League, the Reds face competition from Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle – who have all scouted the Germany international.
There are also La Liga teams keeping tabs on the situation, on top of interest from Napoli, AC Milan and Roma in Serie A.
Liverpool interested in signing Neuhaus
Having pulled out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham, Liverpool desperately need to identify alternative targets in the middle of the park.
Neuhaus has previously been linked with a move to Anfield, so it makes sense for the Reds to reignite their interest in the Gladbach player.
Having suffered partial damage to his cruciate ligament, the 26-year-old hasn’t had much success in the Bundesliga this term. To date, he has made 17 appearances – only ten of which have come from the starting XI.
However, in previous seasons, the German has been able to demonstrate his quality.
When he was linked with the Reds in 2021, Emile Heskey drew comparisons between Neuhaus’s style of play and that of former Liverpool fan-favourite Philippe Coutinho.
“I think they’ve missed that (sort of player) since Coutinho,” said Heskey. “Someone who can get in those pockets, travel with the ball and start committing defenders to come out of those spaces which they can exploit.”
Hailed as an ‘outstanding’ player by teammate Marcus Thuram, Neuhaus could be a brilliant option for Jurgen Klopp to sign.
