Chelsea are set to make one last push to convince Mason Mount to sign a new deal with the club, after strong interest from Liverpool.
That’s according to ESPN, who have shared an update on the midfielder’s contract situation with the Blues.
Since talks stalled in February, the report claims there hasn’t been any tangible progress made between the two parties.
However, one last set of negotiations will take place before an ultimate decision is made.
According to The Daily Mail, there’s a mutual desire between Mount and Liverpool in making a summer move happen.
Chelsea make one last push for Mount
With Liverpool pulling out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham, Jurgen Klopp’s side need to identify their alternative targets fast.
Over the past few months, the only player who has received a similar amount of interest from the Reds as the 19-year-old has, is seemingly Mount.
With the need to add homegrown players to the squad, the 24-year-old would be an ideal addition for the Merseyside outfit.
As he is closing in on the final 12 months of his Chelsea contract, the England international would provide an experienced Premier League option at a reduced rate.
Klopp will find this appealing, as he really needs to sign a further two midfielders on top of this.
Therefore, Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on Mount’s negotiations with the Blues.
