Real Madrid now believe they will sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham in the summer, over the likes of Liverpool.

That’s according to The Independent, who claim the Bernabeu hierarchy remain confident they will be the club to land the 19-year-old.

Los Blancos think their discussions with the player’s representatives have gone well, and the teenager has now become their priority target for the end of the season. They see him as a long-term replacement for Luka Modric.

As reported by The Times journalist Paul Joyce and other UK media outlets last night, Liverpool have cooled their pursuit of Bellingham.

Instead, they are seeking midfield alternatives for the summer.

They deem the cost of the England international too much to spend on a single player.

Madrid confident of signing Bellingham

After years of claiming they were waiting to sign the perfect midfield target, the Reds are now pulling out of the race to land Bellingham.

Jurgen Klopp’s squad has needed numerous midfield additions for a couple of seasons now, but the club insisted they would wait in order to land the Dortmund superstar this very summer.

Now the time is here, and FSG have gone back on their word. To put it frankly, this is an absolute disaster for Liverpool.

Over the past few years, they have only identified Bellingham and Aurélien Tchouaméni as midfield targets. They did not try to sign anybody else. After failing to land either, the Reds’s midfield subsequently fell apart this term.

Liverpool had the perfect opportunity to sign the 19-year-old this summer, but they are ultimately choosing not to – how typical.
