Liverpool will definitely sign two or three midfielders this summer despite missing out on Jude Bellingham.
That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who’s shared an update after last night’s news. Taking to Twitter today, Romano claimed that he’s ‘100 per cent’ sure that the Reds will refresh the middle of the pitch.
“Liverpool see Jude Bellingham deal as ‘too expensive’ due to £130m fee, huge salary over 6 years and commission,” wrote the journalist. “Real Madrid & Manchester City, in the race — Man United situation depends on club sale. Liverpool will 100% sign 2/3 midfielders.”
Time to dust off the chequebook
For once in the transfer market it seems that we can expect a busy summer for Liverpool. Virtually every year recently the Reds have sat back and watched other sides doing business while keeping their powder relatively dry.
But as a result of that, all their chickens have now come home to roost. Liverpool and FSG have no option but to pull out their chequebook in a big way.
Already badly needing midfield upgrades, the Reds are also set to lose Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on free transfers. James Milner is also currently due to depart at the end of the season.

Young Tyler Morton will return from loan, but it’s debatable whether he’s ready to step up to the Liverpool first team full-time. So, as it stands Liverpool will be three short of an already lightweight position. Arguably though, it isn’t actually the numbers of the Reds squad that need replacing. On paper, they have enough midfielders to manage. Instead, what they need is quality players who can stay fit for a full season.
If they bring in two, many fans still won’t be satisfied. But if they are two players who can immediately start and stay healthy for a whole campaign, then that should be enough. Young Stefan Bajcetic or Thiago Alcantara can be the third starter, with a hopefully revitalised Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones as the other options.
That would be eight players to fill just three slots. Depending on who the new signings are, that may be enough. But go out and get three new players, and Klopp will cover himself for every eventuality. Either way big changes are coming this summer at Anfield. We can’t wait.
