Former Liverpool player Don Hutchison has shared his reaction to the news that the Reds have pulled out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.
Taking to Twitter, the Scotsman was left shocked by the club’s decision, claiming his price-tag is something they would have known about for a long time now.
“I find it very surprising that Liverpool have “walked away” from the JB deal,” Hutchison wrote.
“It’s not like Dortmund set the price yesterday. Liverpool have known the price for months.
“(It might not be dead yet), but if so, Caicedo & Mount and Ndicka is a better deal in my opinion.”
Hutchison reacts to Bellingham news
In all honesty, we reacted in the same way as Hutchison did.
After all this time, we find it incredibly hard to believe Liverpool have just now found out about Bellingham’s price-tag.
They have spent years scouting the player and talking with his family and representatives – so the idea they didn’t know how much he would cost seems a little far-fetched in our opinion.
However, the arrival of Moises Caicedo and Mason Mount would certainly soften the blow.
The Brighton star would likely cost around £75m, whereas the Reds are optimistic in landing the Chelsea ace for less than the £70m reported.
This adds up to a similar price they’d be paying for Bellingham, so we’ll see whether FSG sanction these signings over the summer.
