Chelsea have reportedly the first move to sign Gavi, with Liverpool also chasing the FC Barcelona wonderkid ahead of the midfielder’s potential release from the club.

According to AS, the Blues have met with the teenager’s agent in Madrid to discuss a potential move, with Gavi expected to become one of the most sought-after free agents in the history of football if the La Masia graduate is unable to sign a new contract with Barcelona.

Due to financial reasons, the midfielder was recently unregistered as a Barcelona first-team player, meaning that Gavi and his team are facing a losing battle to renew his contract with the club, which is due to expire at the end of this season.

And now, Chelsea have made their first move to sign Gavi, news that should put Liverpool on high alert amid reports from 90min that the Reds are also keen on the 18-year-old, alongside Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Indeed, with Liverpool eager to overhaul their midfield this summer, signing one of the best prospects on the planet would be one of the best deals Jurgen Klopp could pull off in the transfer window. Yet with Chelsea now in the mix, the Reds are running out of time to make their move.

Few prospects in football are as exciting as Gavi, with the 18-year-old already a regular for Spain and a player Barcelona had tipped to become one of their superstars for the future. Yet with the midfielder now inching towards leaving the club for nothing, Liverpool have to ensure that they beat Chelsea to the teenager’s signature.

As we know, Liverpool are in need of changes to their midfield this summer, and landing arguably the best talent in world football in the position ahead of rival clubs will be nothing short of incredible from the Anfield side, who could land a real coup this summer in Gavi.
