Liverpool’s FSG owners are reportedly aware that they might need to sanction a midfield overhaul this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to rebuild the engine room of his squad.

According to the Athletic, the Reds’ American-based owners are alert to the fact that major funds are needed at Liverpool if they’re to change their midfield for the new season, with the Merseyside club expected to break the bank this summer to achieve this project.

With just three goals and four assists from Liverpool’s ten central midfielders combined this season, the Reds have a massive task in their hands this summer if they’re to revamp this area of the pitch into something that can challenge for top-four and potentially the Premier League title.

However, with FSG’s track record of underfunding Liverpool very apparent, the Reds could be left out in the dark if their owners decide to not bankroll the midfield rebuilding project, especially with the £130m-rated Jude Bellingham one of the club’s top targets.

Indeed, the scale of Liverpool’s midfield overhaul cannot be understated, and for FSG, they have to guarantee Klopp ahead of the summer window that the German manager will have the freedom to spend what he wants on the players he believes will add value to the squad.

Trust in FSG from supporters has always been low, with the thought of Liverpool’s owners ever opening their pockets to invest heavily in the club one that few fans can ever dream of. However, that could change this summer if Klopp is given the finances to spend on a midfield.

We have seen at the likes of Arsenal what can happen when owners decide to take an interest in their clubs, and for Liverpool, the likes of John Henry could also be motivated to spend big this summer to get his team back to the top, something that could regain the American’s trust from supporters.
