Klopp was desperate to speak to £71m Chelsea player after Tuesday's game, he gave him a huge hug

Jurgen Klopp sought out Chelsea forward Kai Havertz immediately after Liverpool’s 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

Havertz had been a key player in the game, missing a big chance and seeing a second-half goal disallowed. Had the 23-year-old had his shooting boots on, Liverpool would surely have been beaten.

Perhaps as a result of that, Goal report that Klopp ‘made a beeline’ for Havertz upon the final whistle. Having reached his countryman, the Reds boss reportedly ‘threw his arms around’ the Chelsea attacker.

According to Goal, Havertz ‘appreciated’ the attention of Klopp, who was perhaps offering some encouragement amid a tricky season.

As a one-time reported target of Liverpool though, you just never know! Can we get a word on what Jurgen did when he saw Mason Mount, please…

Havertz still an awkward fit at Chelsea

What a funny little player Kai Havertz is. Signed seemingly just because no-one else could afford him at the time, Chelsea spent a pretty whopping £71m on him in 2020.

Despite that massive outlay, they initially didn’t seem to know exactly how to use him. Three years on and they seemingly still don’t.

Of course, there have been some highs in-between. Havertz will forever be remembered at Chelsea for his match-winner in the Champions League final of 2021.

But for the most part, the Germany international has underwhelmed. Much like his now departed countryman Timo Werner, he just doesn’t have the look of a natural goalscorer whilst wearing Chelsea blue.

So, much like Werner in fact, you can’t help but wonder whether Havertz would have fitted in better at Liverpool. Not quite a midfielder, not quite a striker, it isn’t hard to see him excelling in Roberto Firmino’s famed role at Anfield.

There were plenty of reports linking the then Bayer Leverkusen man to Liverpool before his move to West London. Klopp is obviously a big fan of his. The Reds manager doesn’t forget players he likes. With Chelsea needing to ship a few out this summer and Havertz’s stock on the decline, maybe it’s worth to ask the question?
