Liverpool have put the groundwork in to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, and there’s now a strong possibility he could leave in the summer.
That’s according to GOAL journalist Neil Jones, who has shared an update about the Reds’s interest in the England international on a showing of The Redmen TV.
“Oh yeah, listen, he’s appointed a new agent which usually is a precursor to, he wants the agent to do something i.e., a new contract or a transfer,” said Jones.
“He’s about to enter the final year of his contract at Chelsea. There’s no real progress been made on an extension so he’s giving thought to his next move. Chelsea are in a position, I mean, we talk about Liverpool missing out on the Champions league, Chelsea are further back than Liverpool – they’re not gonna be playing Champions League unless they pull off and a miracle, which I suppose, in Chelsea’s case, is possible given Roberto Di Matteo and Thomas Tuchel have won it in the past, pretty short term appointment.

“They’re not going to be playing in the Champions League, so they are going to be the position where they’re gonna have to do some book balancing. They’ve spent an awful lot of money; they’ve brought in an awful lot of players. And there’s other players now that are going to have to leave the club.”
He later added: “That means there’s a possibility, a strong possibility I think, that Mount leaves the club in the summer. So of course, the clubs that want to sign him or would be interested in signing him – Liverpool are one – would’ve already put in some groundwork and tested the water, they have, to find out what he’s after, what is his situation at Chelsea, why do you want to leave Chelsea.
“Okay, he wants this kind of appreciation salary, length of contract and the word is that the feedback that’s come back is not a case of no, got no chance of signing this player or now he’s desperate to sign his new contract or no, he’s got no interest in moving to a Premier League rival – all those kinds of things. It’s all positive, if you want to call it that. Doesn’t mean that Liverpool will sign him. Doesn’t mean that they’re sort of going to push the boat out and spend £80 million or whatever Chelsea were suggesting that might be an asking price. But it does mean that if there’s an opportunity to sign him, then I think Liverpool will be pretty much at the front of the queue or close to it.”
Liverpool have put the groundwork in to sign Mount
After all of the reports linking the Merseyside club with Jude Bellingham were suddenly put on hold, the incessant transfer void has been filled by the rumours surrounding Mount.
According to GOAL, Jurgen Klopp would love to pair the Chelsea star with the 19-year-old in his midfield.
However, with the transfer fees reportedly being quoted, this could be a difficult task for Liverpool to pull off.

Mount, who has been described as a ‘special player’ by England teammate Declan Rice, will fetch around the £50m mark, whereas Bellingham will go for in excess of £100m.
Furthermore, the Reds could also do with adding a defensive midfielder to their squad, so an impressive overhaul looks quite expensive.
However, it certainly is most needed, so FSG should give Klopp the funds he needs to start rebuilding his squad.
