Liverpool have now joined Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the race to sign West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd.
That’s according to Jeunes Footeux, who claim the 27-year-old’s performances have caught the eye of some of the Premier League’s biggest teams.
All three clubs are said to be targeting left-footed centre-backs, and they have identified the Morocco international as a possible signing.
It is claimed the Hammers could demand up to £53m for Aguerd, even if they suffer relegation to the Championship.
Liverpool interested in Aguerd
Over the last few months, the need for Liverpool to sign a centre-back this summer has greatly increased.
After a sudden drop-off in form, Joel Matip could see the exit door at the end of the season.
This could also be the case for Joe Gomez, but having provided cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold, they could decide to keep him on as a back-up defender.
Nat Phillips is almost certain to leave the club, so that just leaves Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as the side’s only senior centre-backs.
Hailed by BBC pundit Gary Lineker as ‘exceptional’, Aguerd could thus be a fantastic option for the Reds.
West Ham captain Declan Rice has been extremely impressed by the defender’s quality since he arrived at the London Stadium last year, having claimed he is a ‘massive’ player for the Irons.
Therefore, he clearly has the talent needed to succeed at the very highest level.
