Liverpool have informed the representatives of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison that they are interested in signing him this summer.

That’s according to 90min, who claim the Reds and Tottenham Hotspur have already made contact with the player’s agents over a potential move at the end of the season.

Regardless of whether the Foxes manage to avoid relegation from the Premier League, the club have accepted they will have to part ways with the 26-year-old, who’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024. This has been exacerbated by Maddison’s rejection over proposed extensions this term.

The report claims Leicester will demand at least £50m to let the England international go.

Liverpool interested in Maddison

With all of the talk surrounding Liverpool’s hunt for midfielders, Maddison’s name has certainly gone under the radar.

In 21 Premier League appearances this season, the attacking midfielder has impressively bagged nine goals and six assists, despite Leicester’s positioning in the relegation zone.

The talented playmaker has also looked destined for a move to the ‘big six’, and with his contract rapidly approaching just 12 months remaining, it seems like this summer is the time where it finally comes to fruition.

The likes of Spurs and Newcastle United have heavily been linked with Maddison in the past, so it sure wouldn’t be a straight-forward transfer for the Reds to secure.

However, hailed as a ‘world class’ player by Liverpool youngster Leighton Clarkson, the midfielder’s £50m price-tag could tempt Jurgen Klopp into a move.

Brendan Rodgers has claimed he plays just like former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, so he could be a brilliant choice for the Merseyside outfit.
