Liverpool eye Leopold Wahlstedt as Caoimhin Kelleher replacement

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Odds BK goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt as a potential replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher, who could leave Anfield this summer.

According to Fotbolltransfers, the Merseyside giants are keeping tabs on the Swedish international as a bargain signing should Kelleher leave Liverpool, with Alisson Becker’s deputy potentially keen on a move to play regular first-team football elsewhere.

As per the report, Wahlstedt’s contract with Odd is due to expire at the end of this year, with the Norwegian club valuing the 23-year-old at 12m NOK (£900,000) amid interest from Liverpool as well as European regulars Bodo/Glimt.

Lauded as ‘fantastic’ by Hudl, Wahlstedt would be an interesting replacement for Kelleher, a player Liverpool reportedly believe could be sold this summer for as much as £20m, a deal that would once again represent an incredible value in the transfer market for the Reds.

And signing Wahlstedt could again be a fantastic move for Liverpool in terms of value, with the Scandinavian market often viewed as an area where top clubs can land top talents for low prices, with clubs such as Leeds United and Brentford dipping into these windows in recent years.

Wahlstedt has long-been viewed as one of the best goalkeepers in the Nordics and a player who could start for Sweden between the sticks for many years to come, and at Liverpool, the youngster could be an ideal signing for the Reds as well as a catalyst for Kelleher to move elsewhere.

Whilst the Republic of Ireland star is a fan favourite at Anfield, many supporters will agree that the time is now for Kelleher to go his own way and to really make a name for himself in football, with the signing of Wahlstedt an opportunity for the Liverpool star to forge his own career after three seasons as a backup.
