Liverpool staff members are reportedly worried over Chelsea’s impact on the transfer market, with the Blues criticised for potentially overinflating certain players based on recent deals.

According to the Daily Mail, the Anfield side are worried that Chelsea’s moves to sign the likes of Marc Cucurella and Mykhailo Mudryk could lead to Liverpool having to pay over the odds to land Mason Mount, who is emerging as a top target for Jurgen Klopp.

Chelsea broke the spending record in both last summer and in January as Todd Boehly went crazy in the window, with the American owner spending close to £550m across the two markets on new players, including breaking the British record for a single transfer on Enzo Fernandez.

With Chelsea expected to put up even more money into the transfer market this summer, Liverpool are well within their right to be worried about what their Premier League rivals might do in the coming months, though this factor could depend on who succeeds Graham Potter at the club.

Indeed, with one of the biggest squads in world football, this summer could be all about selling players rather than signing them, and for Liverpool, they will be hopeful that Chelsea’s demands for Mount are not too ridiculous as the Blues look to rebuild their squad for good.

Chelsea and Liverpool are, to some degree, expected to overhaul their squads this summer, and for the Reds, they could actually benefit from their west London rivals looking to offload as much deadwood as possible, with Mount potentially falling into this category.

The England international has hardly featured or impressed for Chelsea this season, and with Liverpool keen on signing a creative midfielder, Mount could be allowed to leave his boyhood club for cheap as the Blues look to offload as much from their squad as possible this summer.
