Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool need to get the basics right before they can compete at their best, a comment the German manager believes that could anger some fans.
Speaking to BeIN Sports, the Anfield boss revealed that he saw some good things from his Liverpool side, with Klopp noting that the midfield combined well as the attack and defence also found their feet as the Reds drew 0-0 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The hosts arguably enjoyed the better chances of the match as Kai Havertz had a goal ruled out for handball as the likes of Joao Felix and Enzo Fenrnadez also tested Alisson Becker, with Liverpool enjoying a good defensive display despite missing the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Trent-Alexander Arnold.
Indeed, it was a match Liverpool needed to experience to get back to their best. And for Klopp, getting the basics right is what his side need to focus on, with the Reds boss saying: “Our pressing was okay in the beginning. Chelsea’s idea was to play in behind, we struggled twice, but then got used to that. I saw a lot of good things as well.
“Midfield combining and connecting, it was fine. Up-front a good performance and the last line found their feet. How’s that? I know nobody wants to hear me say these kind of things but better you switch off then. Before we are really playing to our full potential again we have to make these kind of things and we will give our absolute all.”

Liverpool fans are some of the most passionate in the country and demand nothing but the best from their squad with each game, however, in the words of Klopp himself, some supporters might be better off switching off if they’re unwilling to stick through the team getting the basics right.
The Reds have struggled massively this season and will likely have to undergo a total rebuild over the summer, and for some fans, they will have to be patient for Liverpool to return to their best, which could easily take another season or two.
