Liverpool transfer news: Mason Mount could stay at Chelsea

Liverpool transfer target Mason Mount could now stay at Chelsea, after Graham Potter was sacked as manager.

That’s according to FootballTransfers, who have shared an update on the Reds’s summer wish-list.

Jurgen Klopp would love to have the 24-year-old Blues star playing alongside Jude Bellingham in his midfield next season.

However, the situation at Stamford Bridge has now been thrown into the air, as Potter has been relieved of his duties as manager – with the side currently 11th in the Premier League table.

Subsequently, it is reported that a new manager may be able to persuade Mount to stay at Chelsea.

Despite this, FootballTransfers claim the player’s most likely destination is still Liverpool.

Mount could stay at Chelsea

After endless midfielders have been linked with moves to Anfield, two players have consistently risen to the top: Bellingham and Mount.

When rumours first started to emerge about the Chelsea man, these were played off as it seemed unrealistic.

At 24 years old, Mount has already won Player of the Season twice at Stamford Bridge, so his lack of playing time is somewhat unexplained.

Therefore, each and every time news came out about the difficulty surrounding his contract renewal, it started to seem more and more likely that he could leave his boyhood club.

With no extension in sight, Mount will have just 12 months left on his deal at the end of the season.

As a result, Chelsea have succumbed to the fact they may have to cash-in on him this summer, in order to stop him walking on a free transfer next year.

Right now, the Blues want £70m for the ‘unbelievable’ midfielder. However, with his contract now dwindling, Liverpool will be able to land him for considerably less.
