Liverpool injury news: Luis Diaz won't travel with squad to face Chelsea

Luis Diaz will not be part of Liverpool’s squad to face Chelsea this week, with the Colombian international yet to regain full fitness to return to Premier League action.

The Reds announced on their official website that the 25-year-old won’t travel with Jurgen Klopp’s side down to the English capital for Tuesday’s massive clash against the Blues, with Liverpool set to face a managerless Chelsea side following the sacking of Graham Potter.

Diaz returned to full Liverpool training over the international break having been out for six months due to a knee injury, yet despite making big strides in the road to recovery, the attacker won’t be fit enough in time to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The winger has been a massive loss for the Reds this season, with Liverpool really feeling the impact of Diaz being out through injury amid a torrid year for the Anfield giants. And the wait for the attacker’s return will be extended amid this latest update.

Indeed, the 25-year-old will be a welcome addition for Sunday ahead of Liverpool’s huge fixture against Premier League leaders Arsenal, with Diaz potentially back in time to feature from the bench against Mikel Arteta’s side this weekend.

Rushing a player back from injury is often a recipe for disaster, yet Liverpool are playing it safe by keeping Diaz away from the squad that will travel to Chelsea this week, with the winger returning for Arsenal on the weekend a much more important matter.

The Reds could get a result against Mikel Arteta’s Gunners if history is anything to go off by, and with Diaz the sort of player who could give Arsenal problems, having the Colombian fully fit to face the north London side will be more important than rushing the winger back for Chelsea.
