Premier League legend John Terry has claimed Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk is one of the best centre-backs in the world.
Speaking on Stephen Hendry’s YouTube channel ‘Cue Tips’, the former Chelsea captain was asked who he considers to be the best in his position in modern football.
“I really like Upamecano,” said Terry.

“I think he’s a very good young player, he’s someone I’d love to see in the Premier League actually.
“Van Dijk, obviously, Liverpool have been off it this year – he’s had a couple of injuries.
“Thiago Silva is just like a Rolls Royce.”
Terry full of praise for Van Dijk
As one of the best centre-backs to ever play in the Premier League, Terry certainly knows what he’s talking about.
In recent months, Van Dijk has received far too much criticism – especially for someone who so nearly dethroned Lionel Messi in the Ballon d’Or rankings in 2019.
Although he hasn’t been at his best this season, the £220,000-a-week Reds star certainly hasn’t been anywhere near as bad as some people are making him out to be.

Outside of Alisson Becker and the attack, no Liverpool players have showered themselves in glory this term.
The Dutchman has set the standard so high for defenders in recent years that rival fans are revelling in his misfortune.
He is still undeniably one of the best centre-halves in world football – as Terry says.
