Reported Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister will be allowed to leave Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.

Mac Allister is seemingly one of the players on Jurgen Klopp’s long list of midfield targets. And according to The Athletic, Brighton are open to a sale at the end of the season.

Although the report actually focuses on Manchester City’s potential interest in Mac Allister, it’s still worth highlighting from a Liverpool perspective.

It’s claimed that Brighton ‘would not stand in his way’ should a ‘good offer’ arrive for the World Cup winner this summer.

However, a word of caution is also sounded. As the footballing world well knows, the Seagulls don’t often do business so easily. It’s claimed that what a buying club deem to be a ‘good’ offer may not be seen in the same way by Brighton.

Liverpool looking for Gini Wijnaldum 2.0

We won’t hide it, we’d really like Liverpool to sign Alexis Mac Allister this summer. In our opinion, he completely fits the blueprint for what Klopp needs right now.

Call us nostalgic, but he really feels like the 2023 equivalent to signing Gini Wijnaldum from Newcastle. Of course, there are obvious differences – Brighton aren’t about to get relegated for one.

But in terms of player profile, we think they could end up being very similar given Klopp’s input.

Beginning life at Brighton as a slightly more forward-thinking player, Mac Allister has now morphed into a real box-to-box midfielder He’s one of those players who you just look at and know that he could become a world-beater under Klopp. No wonder Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a bid.

It’s encouraging, therefore, to read that Brighton would entertain a sale of the Argentine this summer. Although they’ll apparently look for around £66m to sell him on [Calciomercato], you’d imagine a compromise can be reached.

For somewhere between £40m-£50m we think he’d be a no-brainer for Liverpool. Obviously, City appear interested too, so there’ll be competition. But Mac Allister is right near the top of our wish list this summer.
