GOAL journalist Neil Jones has claimed Liverpool fans won’t like what he’s heard about the club’s interest in Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.

Speaking with The Redmen TV, the reporter has now suggested the Merseyside outfit aren’t looking to bring the soon-to-be free agent to Anfield.

“Unfortunately, the conversations I’ve had about this player has been sort of a… I wouldn’t say a hard no, but a firm no,” said Jones.

“I mean, he obviously looks like he’s going to move somewhere in the summer. There’s a lot of clubs I think also linked in that story.

“When I looked at it, I thought ‘yeah’. A young lad from the Bundesliga you know, sort of played Europa League, played Champions League, France Under 21, good size. I’ll take a free transfer. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

“But I have to say that the people I’ve spoken to around Liverpool, around the club, have poured cold water on it and I sort of, I believe them to be fair.”

Jones rules out Ndicka signing

From an outside perspective, Liverpool would be ridiculous to not explore a deal for Ndicka this summer.

At 23 years old, the Frenchman is a highly rated up-and-coming defender who would add serious quality and depth to the Reds’s back-line.

He has already made 174 appearances for Frankfurt, 35 of which have come this season.

At the German club, he has bagged 11 goals and ten assists – a stat hailed as ‘enormous’ by journalist Christopher Michel.

On a free transfer, this should be a no-brainer for Liverpool.

The likes of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have been below par this season, and the likes of Nat Phillips are expected to leave in the summer.

This means additions at centre-back are most definitely needed.
