Liverpool are reportedly set to have Darwin Nunez fit from injury to face Manchester City on Saturday, with Luis Diaz also in contention to return.
According to Goal, the Uruguay international will be available for this weekend’s trip to the Etihad Stadium in what is a huge injury boost for Liverpool, with fears growing overt the international break that Nunez could be out on the sideline having pulled out of joining up with his national team.
However, these injury fears seem to have been precautionary, and Nunez is now set to be called upon by Jurgen Klopp for Liverpool’s massive Premier League clash against City, with fellow South American Diaz also set to be named in the travelling squad.
The Colombian international has been out for the past six months due to a knee injury, yet after missing most of the season, Diaz is now set to make his long-awaited return this Saturday against Pep Guardiola’s side, where the Liverpool winger will want to make an impression.
Indeed, as well as Diaz, Nunez will hope to continue his impressive goalscoring run in recent weeks, with the striker scoring a brace in Liverpool’s 7-0 thrashing against Manchester United. And City could become the former Benfica man’s next victim in the league.
Nunez’s return from injury has come at a perfect time for Liverpool
Nunez’s first year in England has been odd, to say the least, but with the attacker now finally starting to show form that made the forward a household name in Europe last season, the South American’s return could not have come at a better time for Liverpool.
With just 12 games left to go this season, the Reds must do all they can to salvage anything from this campaign, and a win at City with Nunez in the squad, as well as Diaz, would be a dream start to their Premier League run-in.
