Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes is reportedly being viewed by Liverpool as their most realistic signing this summer despite immense interest in Jude Bellingham.
According to journalist Dean Jones, the 24-year-old star might be the Reds’ best shot at signing a midfielder this summer, with Nunes set to leave Wolves after just one season with the Premier League club amid growing interest from Liverpool.
The transfer insider said: “I think it’s more realistic than Bellingham purely because they’re clearly the best move that’s going to be open to Nunes. It’s going to be a figure that’s going to be affordable. It’s going to be enticing to him and possibly even to Wolves.”
With the Telegraph reporting that Liverpool could make a bid for the former Sporting Lisbon star as early as the end of this season, interest in Nunes seems to be high from Jurgen Klopp, who looks ready to completely revamp his midfield options for next season.
James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita are all expected to leave Anfield this summer when their contracts expire, and in Nunes, Liverpool could have a sensational replacement lined up, with Bellingham another player who could be signed during the off-season.
Indeed, given the size of the job at hand this summer, signing Nunes as a first addition could be a great move for Liverpool, with the midfielder himself seemingly keen on a move to Anfield having already established himself as a top prospect with Wolves.
Liverpool need to work fast sign Nunes in the summer
Bellingham might be Liverpool’s priority this summer, but there’s no denying that the Reds need more than just the England international, with Nunes a perfect second signing for Klopp’s squad amid mass midfield departures in the coming weeks.
Talented, versatile and keen to move on from Wolves, Nunes ticks a lot of boxes for what Liverpool want in a midfielder this summer, with this latest update seemingly hinting that the Reds could move for the former Sporting star before making a bid to land Bellingham.
