Liverpool will be deploying the same tactics they used on Virgil van Dijk to try and convince Jude Bellingham to join them this summer.
That’s the view of former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy. Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Murphy shared what he thinks Liverpool will be doing to win the race for the Borussia Dortmund teenager.
“Jurgen Klopp told Virgil van Dijk he’d win titles at Manchester City but still be forgotten 10 years later whereas at Liverpool he’d be a legend forever,” wrote the pundit. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the same kind of sell may be used on Bellingham. Unlike Rice, he has experienced Champions League football so it might not be such a crushing blow if Liverpool don’t make it for one year.”
Liverpool playing the hand they’re dealt
We’re not sure if Jurgen ever uttered such words to Van Dijk. But he certainly said something very similar about Philippe Coutinho joining Barcelona [Liverpool Echo].
In the end, the manager’s words came to life as Coutinho’s career slipped into irrelevance.

Of course, this won’t be true of every player. You could easily see Bellingham joining Real Madrid or Man City and excelling there too.
And in terms of what success means, well that’s a personal thing individual to each player. What is clear though, is that winning with Liverpool is a little more special than winning with either Madrid or City.
Unfortunately, that could easily be seen as a wholly negative thing by certain players. The Reds have just one Premier League title in the last thirty-three years after all. City have six in the last nine. Madrid meanwhile have won five Champions League trophies in that same nine-year period.
So, winning is obviously much more of a habit for these two teams. As much as we might not like to admit it, Bellingham would likely win more if he went elsewhere. But for sheer legendary status, one trophy with Liverpool is surely worth three or four with these other clubs. We think so anyway!
