Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard took the opportunity to taunt Celtic fans after scoring at Anfield this afternoon.
Gerrard was back on home turf today, turning out for Liverpool Legends as they faced their Celtic counterparts. As a former Rangers manager, Stevie had extra motivation to get the win – as if he ever needed any.
So, when a penalty was awarded following a foul on Martin Skrtel, there was only ever going to be one man to take it.
In a video seen on Liverpool’s official Twitter page, Gerrard stepped up at the Anfield Road end. After sending Artur Boruc the wrong way, he then proceeded to give it large to the Celtic fans behind the goal. Arms outstretched and a smile as wide as the Mersey.
We think Ste enjoyed that one. Someone tell him this is for charity!
Stevie back where he belongs.
Some may roll their eyes when these ‘legends’ games come around. ‘How can the likes of Salif Diao and Gregory Vignal ever be considered anything close to legendary Liverpool players’ some might ask. And that’s fair enough.
But seriously, what’s not to love about seeing some former heroes take to the Anfield pitch to raise money for charity.
Certainly, for any Red of any age it will always be a delight to see Gerrard back where he belongs. His goal today set Liverpool up for a 2-0 win, the second coming courtesy of Chilean winger Mark Gonzalez.

But Gerrard was the real star of the show. He always is. It never really felt right to see him at different clubs. After stints at both Rangers and Aston Villa, it would be brilliant to see him back at Liverpool in some kind of capacity.
Having managed 90 minutes today, perhaps he’d still do a job in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield! No, we’re joking, obviously… But come on Stevie, you’ve still got your boots… And what about that run from Skrtel, sign him up, Jurgen!
