Liverpool transfers: Reds positioning themselves to sign ‘aggressive’ defender

Liverpool are preparing to make their case to sign centre-back Evan Ndicka on a free transfer this summer.

Ndicka looks set to leave Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer at the end of the season, with plenty of clubs in the running to sign him. Liverpool have been rumoured to be one of those, and according to Mundo Deportivo, the Reds are very much in the picture.

In fact, it’s claimed that Liverpool are already ‘positioning themselves’ in order to being the 23-year-old to Anfield.

Unfortunately though, they’re not the only ones doing so. All of PSG, Real Betis, Sevilla, Juventus, Milan and Inter are reportedly readying themselves too.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also claimed to be seen as a ‘viable’ destination for Ndicka. Unfortunately for Barca though, the amount of competition for the Frenchman is said to be causing them a ‘problem.’

Ndicka high on Liverpool’s list

Liverpool should be all over Ndicka this summer. The Reds are badly in need of a new potentially top-level centre-back and the Eintracht man could fit the bill.

Ideally, Liverpool would be able to bring in the prodigious talents of a player like Josko Gvardiol. But with budget forever a concern at Anfield, he’s probably going to be too expensive.

With his contract in Germany coming to a close, Ndicka will be available at the other end of the scale. Should they bring him in this summer, the Reds won’t pay a penny to Frankfurt.

A potentially top-level centre-back arriving in his early twenties from Germany? We’ve been here before. Ironically, Ndicka would be seen as a long-term replacement for Joel Matip.

Just like they did with Matip though, Liverpool would possibly have to wait to see the best of Ndicka. Described as being ‘too aggressive’ by Jamie Carragher this season, he has a few things to iron out.

But with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and likely Joe Gomez all going nowhere this summer, the Reds can allow him the time to bed in. There does look to be plenty of competition, but that’s to be expected. You won’t find better value in a centre-back this summer.
