Kidderminster Harriers manager Russell Penn has praised the performances of on-loan Liverpool youngster Jack Bearne.
Bearne joined sixth-tier Kidderminster last summer in search of regular game time away from Liverpool. And as Penn told The Athletic today, he has found the going good at Harriers.
“It’s been a good loan. He’s been involved in about 25 of the 35 games. He scored five or six goals and his attitude is bang on, so I’d say it was a positive loan,” said the coach.
“Liverpool are one of the best clubs in the world. You don’t play for them if you’re a bad egg or have a bad attitude.
“He’s first class, he hasn’t turned his nose up at the level. He’s rented a place down here and he’s really dived in headfirst to try to improve us as a football club.”
Bearne finding his own way
At twenty-one and now playing non-league football, it seems highly unlikely we’ll ever see Bearne in the Liverpool first team.
When he does eventually leave the club though, he can at least say he made a full appearance for the Reds. Bearne was one of the youngsters involved in Liverpool’s bizarre Carabao Cup quarter-final loss to Aston Villa in 2019.
With the senior team away in Qatar for the Club World Cup, Neil Critchley managed an academy side to a relatively respectable 4-0 defeat. Bearne came off the bench that day to make what will likely be his only Liverpool appearance.
Still, there’s plenty of career ahead for the forward. He may not have made it at Liverpool, but there’s no shame in that. By the sounds of things he’s going the right way to forge a path in the lower leagues.
To that end, The Athletic report that Penn would be keen to take Bearne back at Kidderminster next season. It’s claimed that this would perhaps even be on a permanent deal.
It may not be Liverpool, but it’s a good place to play football and a chance for Bearne to find a permanent home. Keep working hard, Jack!
