Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has raved about Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, amid claims Jurgen Klopp hopes to sign him.
Speaking on commentary for Channel 4 ahead of England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy tonight, the Anfield hero was full of praise for the 26-year-old, who is reportedly a target of the Reds.
“They have potential world class players emerging now,” Gerrard said of Italy.

“Now you have the likes of Barella, Raspadori.
“These are players who could become world class over the course of their careers.”
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool scout Paul Goldrick and chief scout Barry Hunter have been following the Italy international for some time now. Subsequently, they are eyeing a move for him in the summer.
Gerrard raves about Liverpool target Barella
As has been the case for months now, Liverpool desperately need to sign a number of midfielders – and this can’t be pushed beyond the summer.
The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner are all set to depart the club at the end of the season, and various senior players, including Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, have been well below par at times.
As a result, the arrival of Barella at Anfield would be more than welcomed by Liverpool fans.

However, with the midfielder rumoured to cost in excess of £70m, FSG are likely to claim they won’t have the funds needed if they are to sign Jude Bellingham as well.
Therefore, despite the fact he could be a brilliant fit for Klopp’s team, it would take a lot of work to prise Barella away from Inter.
