Liverpool have been left outraged by Manchester City’s latest move to slash their visiting ticket allocation for the upcoming Premier League clash.

That’s according to The Mirror, who claim the Reds will make a direct appeal to the Premier League to reconsider the reduction – which has cut the side’s allocation by almost 20 percent.

In recent seasons, tensions have started to run high between the two sets of fans, after a series of clashes have taken place.

The Sky Blues have suggested that “it is the threat to public order that has led to the reduction in allocation, on the advice of the Safety Advisory Group.”

Man City’s decision has reduced Liverpool’s away support by almost 500 people on previous post-covid levels, and more than 750 on pre-pandemic numbers.

Various Liverpool groups, including the fans’ union Spirit of Shankly, have suggested that this act will worsen the relations, as it almost feels like they’re trying to suppress Liverpool’s away support.

“At the corresponding fixture last season, Liverpool fans experienced overzealous stewarding and policing, and were locked in the ground after the match with no access to toilets,” wrote Spirit of Shankly.

“Such undue treatment of supporters serves only to increase tension, which SOS fed back to Greater Manchester Police at the time.

“Now, it appears, Liverpool supporters are to be penalised further.

“We understand reduced allocations at the Etihad have also happened to other clubs, which don’t seem to be about away fan behaviour, but poor crowd management.”

Although this has been the case for other Premier League teams, Liverpool have been unfairly targeted on previous occasions.

For example, despite trouble coming from the home end at the Etihad back in 2019, City subsequently reduced the Reds’ away allocation for their next match.

Therefore, this does hint at specific targeting of Liverpool, so the club should have a compelling argument when it comes to their appeal.
