Liverpool youngster Adam Lewis is set to leave the club this summer, upon the expiry of his contract.

That’s according to the Liverpool Echo, who have shared details on the 23-year-old’s deal at Anfield.

Having spent the campaign on loan in League Two with Newport County, the defender recently returned to Merseyside after suffering a season-ending injury.

This has come at a bad time for Lewis, as he is set to be out of contract in the summer.

To make matters worse, the Echo now claim he’s not expected to receive an extension – meaning he will leave the club as a free agent.

Having joined the club’s academy at the age of six, the Scouser has been at Liverpool ever since.

Lewis played an important part for the U18’s side whilst Reds legend Steven Gerrard was in charge.

The manager was actually so impressed by the youngster, he lavished him with the highest of praise.

Speaking with the club’s official website, Gerrard claimed: “If Adam can keep this consistency up, I don’t think he’ll be around this team for much longer.

“I want to keep him for as long as I can, but for me, he’s such a threat on the left side.

“Going forward, I haven’t seen anyone as good as him at that age, in terms of quality and what he can deliver in the final third.”

Despite this, Lewis hasn’t gone on to become the next big thing at Anfield.

Instead, he has been sent out on loans to Amiens, Plymouth Argyle, Livingston and most recently Newport County – where he seems to have impressed.

Therefore, once his contract expires at the end of the season, hopefully the League Two side offer him a deal there.
