Gini Wijnaldum now posts five-word message after training with Virgil van Dijk today

Former Liverpool player Georginio Wijnaldum has posted a message on Twitter after training with Virgil van Dijk today.

Having spent the vast majority of the season out injured, the 32-year-old has only recently returned to fitness with AS Roma – where he is spending the year on loan, from Paris Saint-Germain.

Having also missed the World Cup due to the same injury, the midfielder has now returned to international duty with the Netherlands.

As a result, he has once again been reunited with Van Dijk, after leaving the Reds back in 2021.

Taking to Twitter after training with his former teammate, Wijnaldum posted a message about being back together.

“Back on the field together,” he captioned two images.

Despite leaving the club nearly two-years ago now, Wijnaldum is still greatly missed at Anfield.

The Dutchman played an absolutely crucial role in Jurgen Klopp’s side, and ultimately, he hasn’t been adequately replaced since leaving.

The 32-year-old was the one who did the dirty work in the middle of the park. He often covered for Trent Alexander-Arnold, allowing him to bomb down the wing and become one of the most prolific assisters in the Premier League.

Furthermore, there’s no way anyone could forget his insane contributions for Liverpool’s 4-0 comeback against Barcelona, which ultimately led to the Champions League trophy.

Therefore, it was a huge shame to see Wijnaldum leave the club, especially with confusion surrounding his exit.

Although he’s extremely unlikely to play for the Reds ever again, it’s always good to see former Liverpool players enjoying their football elsewhere.
