Liverpool midfielder James Milner has now been handed an opportunity to stay at the club, after claims he would leave at the end of the season.
That’s according to The Mirror, who state that the 37-year-old has the option to remain on Merseyside for a further year.
Having signed a one-year contract extension last summer, Planet Football have suggested that it would be surprising to see the Reds vice-captain lining out at Anfield next season.
However, The Mirror claim the ball has been left in the player’s court.
Instead, they report that Milner will have the choice to decide whether he wants to sign another years extension at Liverpool.
Milner has big decision to make
With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita set to leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer, Milner could still join the pair in doing so.
Whether he would sign for another team or retire awaits to be seen, but there remains a real chance he could decide to depart.
Alternatively, he could sign that 12-month renewal, but it would come with a lesser role in the squad.
Jurgen Klopp is looking to rebuild his midfield this summer, and it looks likely the club will bring in three new additions in the position.
Therefore, at 37 years old, Milner will fall further down the pecking order. However, he would be a great figure to keep around, due to his incredible leadership and team spirit.
As a result, the Yorkshireman, who has been hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by John Aldridge for his time at Anfield, has a really big decision to make over the coming months.
