Liverpool have slapped an asking price of up to £15m on defender Joel Matip this summer.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who claim that the Reds will demand between £10m and £15m to let the 31-year-old go.
Matip has been rumoured to be on the way out of Liverpool after another injury-hit campaign. Judging by this report from Italy today, the Reds are now happy to make do without the Cameroonian.
Liverpool looking for ambitious sale
It’s hard to put a value on Matip. Having signed for Liverpool on a free transfer back in 2016, he has never felt like a player who could command a big fee.
Even at the height of his powers – around four years ago – he always felt like someone who was incredibly undervalued.

Now with just a year to go on his contract, this would appear a pretty ambitious valuation from Liverpool. Who is going to pay an eight-figure sum for a player with an injury record as chequered as Matip’s?
A return to Germany has always felt like the most likely option for Big Joel. But the Bundesliga isn’t exactly awash with cash-rich clubs.
That kind of money is what plenty of teams spend on their biggest signings on the continent. Although he’s a Champions League and Premier League winner who Jamie Carragher has called ‘fantastic,’ Matip’s career is obviously winding down. He’ll be thirty-two in August and isn’t exactly in the best of form.
So, if Liverpool do have designs on selling they’re No.32 – and they should – they might have to readjust their expectations.
