Wolverhampton Wanderers are planning for the departure of midfielder Ruben Neves, after claims Liverpool will try to buy him this summer.
That’s according to TalkSPORT, who claim the Midlands club are anticipating offers for the 26-year-old, as he is out of contract in June 2024.
As per the report, there have been no signs of a new deal being penned.
As a result, the Old Gold are preparing to cash-in on the Portugal international at the end of the season, so they don’t lose him on a free transfer next year.
TalkSPORT claim Liverpool have long been interested in signing Neves, as have Manchester United.
According to The Mirror, the Reds were considering a move to land the midfielder in January, but a deal failed to come to fruition.
Furthermore, as per Sport, the Merseyside outfit are among the clubs who are keen on signing the Wolves star in the summer.
Wolves preparing for Liverpool target Neves to leave
As it stands, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner are all set to depart the club at the end of the season upon the expiry of their contracts.
With the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho also ageing, Liverpool don’t have many players in the prime of their careers.
As such, at least three new additions are needed in the middle of the park.
Previously valued at £50m, Neves could prove to be a relatively cheap option for Jurgen Klopp, as they should be able to land him on a cut-price deal due to his dwindling contract.
Furthermore, he has been hailed as ‘sensational’ by Gary Neville, so surely he would be a great asset for Liverpool to add.
With a wealth of experience in the top-flight, the Reds could then look at securing other younger midfielders for the future – as well as bringing in a big money signing like Jude Bellingham.
