Liverpool are rivalling Manchester United in the race to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, ahead of the summer window.

That’s according to ESPN, who claim the English giants are closely monitoring the 20-year-old with the view to a transfer at the end of the season.

In recent weeks, the Spaniard has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. But now, as per the report, Newcastle United, AC Milan and Napoli have also joined the queue for the youngster.

It is believed that Leeds United and Bournemouth made approaches to land him in January.

Veiga has a £35m release clause, piquing the interest of the Reds – who have commissioned reports on both the player’s sporting life and personal life.

Liverpool interested in Veiga

As a graduate of Celta Vigo’s academy, Veiga is very familiar with Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic.

The 18-year-old signed from the La Liga outfit back in 2020, having grown up playing in the side’s youth ranks.

The Anfield starlet hails from the Galicia region of Spain, where Veiga is also from.

Although the Celta ace is two years older than Bajcetic, it seems like the pair know each other well.

Veiga sent his condolences to Bajcetic on Instagram today, after the teenager announced he would be out for the remainder of the season due to injury.

The 20-year-old has burst onto the scene this term, scoring eight goals in 24 league appearances from the middle of the park.

With Liverpool needing midfield additions this summer, it seems like Veiga would be a brilliant signing for both the present and the future.

Therefore, the club should get Bajcetic involved in luring him to Anfield – using that strong Celta connection to their advantage.
