Liverpool are preparing to take on Real Madrid this week and the task has been made even harder thanks to some bad injury news.
The Reds need to pull off the biggest of comebacks at the Bernabeu. It would be a comeback to trump some of the very best nights in Europe we’ve seen from the Reds over the years. But, you just never know, and Jurgen Klopp will have his team up for the task.
However, Klopp’s ideas of getting the victory have been made all the harder with news emerging from training today.
According to The Evening Standard, Liverpool will be without four key players for the game in Madrid, including £20m midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
As well as Thiago, Naby Keita, Joe Gomez, and Luis Diaz are all set to miss out as well. The news will be a bitter blow for Klopp, who would have hoping for the extra bodies to help the Reds out.
Thiago’s experience in Europe and in big games like this is also massive. Klopp would likely have selected the Spaniard, but it means the German must come up with another plan now.
Thiago’s time in Liverpool has been riddled with injury problems. Likewise Keita. Gomez and Diaz, meanwhile, will hope to still play big parts this season.
RTK’s View: Liverpool facing mammoth Madrid task now
It’s hard enough going to Madrid with a full strength squad but to go with players out injured, especially ones like the four mentioned here, is just bad luck.
Thiago and Diaz would have been particularly useful, while even Keita’s energy could have helped in the middle if needed.
Liverpool have it all to do this week. If they do pull it off, then it might go down as one of – if not the – best night under Jurgen Klopp so far.
