Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has claimed that ‘everyone knows’ Jude Bellingham wants to play for Liverpool.
Bellingham is quite openly the Reds top transfer target to bolster their midfield this summer. And as per quotes to CBS Sports Golazo last night, Henry clearly thinks Liverpool are the 19-year-old’s first choice, too.
Whilst discussing PSG’s transfer strategy, the Frenchman urged them to go for players who are keen to play for the club. Using Bellingham as an example, Henry made a claim that Liverpool fans will love to hear.
“Jude Bellingham wants to play for Liverpool. Everyone knows that,” the Frenchman said via journalist Ben Jacobs on Twitter.
His comments were certainly interestingly received by an amused looking Jamie Carragher. Appearing a little shell-shocked, Carragher gave a knowing look straight at the camera. What do you know, Carra?
Bellingham battle reaches boiling point
Interestingly, Henry’s comments came on the same day that some more rather big claims about Bellingham were made.
Football Transfers reported yesterday that officials at Liverpool are openly speaking about the Borussia Dortmund man joining the club.
They also added that certain ‘club legends’ of the Reds were speaking with ‘certainty’ that a deal would be done. Given Carragher’s reaction here, perhaps he could be one of those cited.
The report from Football Transfers does note that Bellingham will cost at least £106m, though. As we know, it’s one thing for the England international to want to join Liverpool, it’s another for them to put that fee on the table.
By the sounds of it though, that money has already been put aside by FSG. To get this deep into the battle for Bellingham and still be in the race, you’d think the Reds owners would know the price by now.
Either way, we’re likely to hear news on Bellingham’s decision pretty soon. It was also claimed yesterday that Dortmund are expecting an answer from their No.22 by Easter. According to Henry, Bellingham has already made his decision. Let’s see if he turns out to be correct.
