Liverpool fans urge Jurgen Klopp to sign 24-year-old from Wolves after watching him last night

Some Liverpool fans have been urging Jurgen Klopp to sign Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes, after watching him at Anfield last night.

Nunes has been strongly linked with a switch to Liverpool as they look to rebuild their midfield this summer. With the Portugal international travelling to take on the Reds on Wednesday, it was a perfect chance to run the rule over him.

The 24-year-old was a little subdued during his 70 minutes on the pitch, not especially catching the eye all that much. But judging by these fan’s reactions on Twitter, Nunes has now done enough to justify Liverpool spending big on him.

Nunes fails to fully convince

Liverpool fans have had plenty of chances to see Nunes up close this season. Last night was the fourth time the Reds have played Wolves since the turn of the year.

Despite that, some will feel they never got a proper look at him. Of the four games, Nunes started only two and completed the 90 minutes just once.

During that time, he did show some glimpses that he’d be a good fit at Anfield, but last night wasn’t his best game.

Of course, Liverpool won’t make a decision on a transfer based on those games, no way. But as we’ve seen recently with Darwin Nunez, the chances of earning a move to the Reds are enhanced by playing well against them.

With Jurgen Klopp said to be taking a more active role in transfer business, impressing the manager during a game is a good place to start.

As Liverpool have reportedly been watching Matheus for a while, a good display last night could have supplemented the information the Reds already have.

And while he did enough to convince some, others will remain sceptical.

It remains to be seen just how serious Liverpool are about bringing Nunes to Anfield in the off-season. They’ll certainly continue to monitor him, but he might need to step up a little on yesterday’s showing.
