Why Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita was left out of Jurgen Klopp’s squad to face Wolves tonight – journalist

Naby Keita was left out of Liverpool’s squad to face Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight after suffering from a knock.

That’s according to Echo journalist Ian Doyle, who shared the news on Twitter.

The 28-year-old featured for 45 minutes on Saturday as the Reds were held to a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace.

His half-time substitution came as a result of the yellow card he was awarded early on in the game.

Therefore, Keita’s knock must have occurred during training recently, as Jurgen Klopp failed to mention the midfielder’s injury during his pre-match press conference.

Keita absent for Wolves clash

This knock really sums up Keita’s career at Anfield.

Whilst there have been signs of brilliance since he arrived from RB Leipzig in 2018, the 28-year-old has spent more time on the medical table than he has on the pitch.

The Guinea international has made just eight appearances in the Premier League this season, having been unavailable for 14 matches due to injury.

Even when he has been fit recently, he has looked below his usual standards – often forcing Klopp into a substitution.

Keita is out of contract at the end of the campaign, and by the looks of it, he is set to leave the club on a free.

Having spent £48m on his transfer fee, this will go down as a financial blow for Liverpool, but it’s the right decision as they’ll be saving on his £130,000 weekly wage.
