Liverpool are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Daichi Kamada on a free transfer this summer.
That’s according to Sport1 chief reporter Patrick Berger, who recently spoke on the Expert Insight show for The Redmen TV.
However, unfortunately for the Reds, it appears Borussia Dortmund are close to landing the 26-year-old.
“I heard that he is also one of the players on the list for Liverpool,” said Berger.
“But he is keen, as I’m told, to move to Borussia Dortmund as a free agent.”
This is supported by Fabrizio Romano, who suggests BVB’s verbal agreement to sign the Japan international is ‘almost ready’.
Liverpool likely to miss out on Kamada
With Kamada available on a free transfer this summer upon the expiry of his Frankfurt contract, Liverpool are likely to miss out on a fantastic piece of business.
In 31 matches this term, the midfielder has bagged 13 goals and five assists – predominantly playing centrally, with the odd occasion being further up the pitch or out on the left.
According to Transfermarkt, the Japanese star is worth around £26.6m, so the fact he’s available for nothing this summer presents an incredible bargain to be had.
The Reds are in desperate need of midfield additions, with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all set to depart.
Therefore, Kamada – who has been hailed a creative ‘genius’ by former Frankfurt head coach Adi Hütter – could have been a fantastic option for Jurgen Klopp.
However, it looks like Liverpool are set to miss out – so the hunt must go on.
