Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate are in contention to play against Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow night.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash, the German admitted he is tempted to play the Uruguayan, despite his recent struggles with his shoulder injury.
“Ibou [Konate] trained yesterday completely normal and Darwin as well. Then we will see,” said Klopp.
“Darwin we have to see. It looked absolutely okay yesterday, but we have to see how he reacts.”
Big boost for Klopp
With both Konate and Nunez potentially at his disposal, this will be a huge boost for Klopp.
Liverpool have looked defensively frail in recent weeks, so the Frenchman’s return from injury will add a level of stability to the back-line.
With Joe Gomez out injured, Joel Matip has been back in the starting XI. However, he has struggled physically, as well as looking nervous when he’s been on the ball.
Therefore, the 23-year-old coming in will make the other defenders around him feel more confident and reassured by his presence.
Nunez will also be a massive asset for Klopp to use following his injury, which he decided to play with against Real Madrid.
It would be unlikely for the manager to risk the striker if he was going to make matters worse for himself – especially with the game against Manchester United looming at the weekend.
Therefore, with the 23-year-old back to his best, the Wolves back-line will have a torrid time trying to defend against him.
However, we will have to see how they’re feeling ahead of tomorrow night, but it seems likely that they’ll both be involved.
