Liverpool are weighing up a summer move to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
That’s according to German journalist Kerry Hau. In quotes from Sport1, Hau claims Liverpool are interested in signing Gravenberch to complement top target Jude Bellingham.
“Liverpool are interested [in Gravenberch]. They want to rejuvenate their midfield in the summer and can well imagine bringing in two new eights – another player next to desired player Jude Bellingham,” said the journalist. “His name has been mentioned more often by those responsible.”
Hau also claimed that Liverpool have gone as far as making enquiries about the 20-year-old’s personality.
“There is no concrete interest yet, but they are eyeing the situation and have already inquired about him in the environment of Gravenberch, how he is as a guy,” he said.
However, it appears as though Bayern wouldn’t be keen to sell the player, despite his limited action this season. “Bayern’s position is clear: they don’t want to give him up,” Hau concludes.
Gravenberch yet to find his feet in Munich
This is a transfer that would seemingly tick nearly every box for Liverpool. At twenty, Gravenberch is still exceedingly young with huge potential. He’s the kind of midfielder they look desperate for right now and may be available at a relatively decent price. What’s not to love?
The last of that trio of points is perhaps a little contentious. But since arriving at Bayern for an initial £16m last summer, the former Ajax man has started only four games.
As a young midfielder at a huge club, that may not be hugely surprising. Gravenberch is a special talent though, and was already a fixture in the Ajax team at seventeen. He wants to be playing games.
His lack of involvement at Bayern eventually saw him miss out on place in the Netherlands World Cup squad last year. That kind of snub has reportedly had the youngster considering his future in Munich.
So, despite his potential, maybe Liverpool could get Gravenberch for a knockdown fee. The Reds have a decent relationship with Bayern after all, having hammered out deals for Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane recently.
A transfer here could end up being the best scenario for everyone. With the player unhappy, Liverpool in need of midfielders and Bayern able to make a quick profit, everybody wins. This could be one to watch.
