Pundit Tony Cascarino has claimed Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has been a shadow of his former self this season.
Writing for his column in The Times, the former Chelsea player claimed that none of the defenders at Anfield have their places in the team guaranteed, after a massive downfall in form this term.
“Nobody’s future in this Liverpool defence is secure,” said Cascarino.
“I have not mentioned Andy Robertson but he too has been half the player he was last season.
“I think Gomez could use a spell abroad, while Alexander-Arnold would be helped by playing alongside a midfielder with speed who can cover for his weaknesses.”
Cascarino thinks Robertson has been poor
Whilst the likes of Gomez, Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip have received strong amounts of criticism this season, one player who has gone under the radar is Robertson.
The 28-year-old hasn’t been firing at his best in the Premier League this term, but by no means has he been the worst player in Liverpool’s back-line.
The Scotland captain has made 28 appearances thus far, during which he has contributed eight assists.
However, his attacking threat hasn’t been up to its usual standards, and his defensive play has lapsed at times.
Despite this, it would be completely wrong to lament just Robertson.
He is just one player in a struggling squad. They are all feeling the effects of a crazy schedule over the past few years, and the 28-year-old has been a constant figure in the side since arriving in a deal worth £10m.
