Liverpool defender Joe Gomez picked up an injury whilst playing against Real Madrid tonight.
Thatâs according to Liverpool Echo journalist Theo Squires.
After coming off for Joel Matip in the 73rd minute, the 25-year-old headed straight down the tunnel.
Worryingly, he was spotted clutching the back of his hamstring.
This will come as a big blow to Jurgen Klopp, as Ibrahima Konate remains on the sidelines â despite initial calls suggesting he would be fit in time for the first-leg of the Champions League tie.
Gomez picked up an injury vs Madrid
After a strong start from Liverpool, things quickly flew apart.
This started with a calamitous mistake from goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who gifted Vinicius Jr Madridâs second goal of the game â equalling the scoring 2-2.
From here, Liverpoolâs defence lost all stability.
Gomez was certainly at the heart of this, as he struggled to deal with Los Blancosâ hammering attacks.
He struggled with the pace of the match, and the Reds were punished.
Whether the centre-back was playing with a hamstring injury is yet to be established.
If this was the case, it was a mistake from Klopp to start him against the European champions.
However, if this wasnât reality, Gomezâs performance wasnât good enough.
Hopefully his injury isnât too serious, as Liverpool will be eyeing their next Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace.
