Pundit Stephen Warnock has been left seriously impressed by Liverpool’s turn in form this season.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2, the former Red was shocked by just how different Jurgen Klopp’s side looked after the wins over Everton and Newcastle United last week.
“I think teams will be fearing Liverpool now,” said Warnock.
“You look at strength off the bench now and you look straight away at Jota and Firmino coming back.
“Nunez with that shoulder injury will be a concern, where he’s at.
“But it’s incredible how a week can change a season and you look at the last two results for Liverpool; two clean sheets on the bounce, they’ll be delighted with that.”
Warnock says Liverpool’s turnaround is incredible
Although the last two results have been largely positive for the Reds, the real test will be to see whether they can maintain this form going forward.
Liverpool face Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the Champions League tomorrow night. This will be a huge match for Jurgen Klopp’s side, which will challenge the players’ fitness and injury resolve after numerous problems this season.
Currently in eighth place in the Premier League table, the Merseyside outfit are only seven points behind fourth place Tottenham – and with two games in-hand.
The Magpies could recover their spot in the top-four, as a win would see them edge two points past Spurs. The Reds would thus be nine points behind, but they would once again have two games in-hand.
This is a sensational turn of events, as just a week ago, the club looked miles off Champions League qualification.
Now there is a mathematical chance of it actually happening. However, a level of consistency will be needed if they are to challenge this season, after an awful start to the campaign.
